Why most idea validation is guesswork
The usual process is forty browser tabs, a spreadsheet of competitors found by whoever ranks first on Google, and a gut feeling about demand. It takes a week, it misses the competitors that do not advertise, and it rarely produces a clear answer.
Asking a chatbot is faster but answers from training data. It cannot tell you what a competitor charges today, whether a product was shut down last quarter, or how many people searched for the problem last month.
Validation needs current evidence you can check: who else serves this customer, what they charge, what they leave out, and whether anyone is searching for the problem at all.

Describe the idea in one sentence
“Software that automates phone orders for takeaway restaurants” works better than “AI for restaurants”. The more specific the sentence, the more accurate competitor discovery is.

Agents research the market
Competitor discovery, site crawling, keyword research and market-gap scoring run as one pipeline. A full run usually takes a few minutes and you can keep working while it runs.

Opportunity Score (0 to 100)
Weighs demand, competition and gaps. 80 and above is strong potential, 60 to 79 promising, 40 to 59 needs work, and below 40 high risk.
Direct competitors, ranked
Ranked by how directly they compete with your idea, not by brand size, and classified as direct, indirect, emerging or alternative.
Search demand
Monthly search volume, keyword difficulty and cost per click for the terms your buyers use, from an SEO data provider.
Feature and market gaps
What competitors leave out, and unmet needs scored by impact and effort, so you can see where a new product could fit.
Confidence on every claim
How strongly the evidence supports each finding. Where evidence is thin, you see fewer results rather than a padded list.
A report you can share

What it does not do
Research you act on should tell you where it stops. These are the limits, stated up front.
- A score is decision support, not a prediction. It tells you how the market looks today, not whether you will execute well.
- Traffic and search figures come from third-party providers and are estimates. They are labelled as estimates in the product.
- If your one-sentence description is vague, the competitor list will be too. Tighten the sentence and run it again.
Frequently asked questions
How do I validate a startup idea with SignalDart?
Create a project and describe the idea in one specific sentence. SignalDart discovers the competitors, crawls their pricing and feature pages, researches search demand and scores the opportunity. You read the verdict and the evidence behind it on one page.
Is idea validation free?
Yes. The Free plan includes one full research report a month with up to 5 competitors and needs no card. Paid plans add more research runs, more competitors per project and continuous monitoring.
Will it tell me if my idea is bad?
Yes. The score weighs competition and how hard it would be to rank alongside demand, and verdicts such as “Crowded market: established competitors already cover what users want” are part of the output. A tool that only ever finds opportunities is not research.
How is this different from asking ChatGPT whether my idea is good?
A language model answers from its training data. SignalDart fetches competitors' pages when it runs, records when each page was read and cites the URL, so you can check every figure yourself.
How long does a validation run take?
A full research run typically takes a few minutes. Competitor discovery, crawling, SEO analysis, gap scoring and the written summary run as one pipeline.
